The inaugural Golf Digest Open is launching this spring with 8 qualifying events.   Each event is a two-person team event that will crown National Champions in both Gross and Net Divisions.

400 teams will compete in eight regional qualifiers this summer, with 32 teams advancing to the National Championship in October. 

The format for the entire tournament will be two-person Best Ball. All teams will be automatically entered into both divisions of this stroke-play competition. 

REGIONAL QUALIFIERS  Registration is open to all legal residents (21+) of the United States and Canada who hold a valid World Handicap System compliant handicap. Each regional qualifier (see below for schedule) is a one-day, 18-hole event limited to 50 teams (100 players). 

COST  The entry fee for each qualifier is $500 per player ($1,000 per team) and includes green fees, cart fees, practice range access, breakfast and/or lunch, and a player gift. (Only one player is required to register their team for each regional qualifier.) 

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING  32 teams will qualify for and compete in the National Championship. These will be the two lowest scoring teams (to par) from each of the Gross and Net divisions from each qualifier.  The top Gross and Net team at each regional qualifier will have their National Championship entry fees ($1,000 per player, $2,000 per team) paid for by Golf Digest. 

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP  The National Championship will be a 36-hole final contested over two days (Monday, October 30th and Tuesday, October 31st, 2023) at Fields Ranch (East and West). The team with the lowest 36-hole score in each of the Gross and Net divisions will be crowned Golf Digest Open Champions!

Hitting a solid chip shot is an essential skill for golfers, and it can take some practice to get it right. Here are some steps to help you hit a solid chip shot:

3. Take a short backswing: Keep your backswing short and controlled, with your wrists firm and your arms relaxed. Your goal is to create a consistent and smooth swing.
   
4. Accelerate through the ball: As you swing down, focus on accelerating through the ball, rather than trying to scoop it up. Keep your hands ahead of the clubhead at impact to ensure solid contact.
   
5. Follow through: After you hit the ball, continue your swing with a full follow-through. This will help you maintain your balance and ensure that the ball travels the desired distance.
   
   

A stinger golf shot is a low-trajectory shot that travels a long distance with a lot of roll. Here are the steps to hit a stinger golf shot:

1. Start by positioning the ball further back in your stance than you would for a normal shot.
   
2. Use a shorter club, such as a long iron or a driving iron.
   
3. Make a three-quarter swing, meaning that you don't take the club back as far as you normally would. This will help you keep the ball flight lower.
   
4. As you start your downswing, make sure that your hands are ahead of the ball at impact. This will help you strike the ball with a descending blow, which will produce a lower trajectory.
   
5. Keep your body weight forward throughout the swing to help you hit down on the ball and create more spin.
   
6. Focus on hitting the center of the clubface with a crisp, clean contact to maximize the energy transfer from the clubhead to the ball.
   
7. Follow through with your swing, keeping your hands low and the clubhead close to the ground. This will help you keep the ball flight low and produce a lot of roll.
   

It's important to note that hitting a stinger consistently requires practice and may not come naturally at first. It's also important to experiment with different ball positions and club selections to find what works best for your swing. Consulting with a golf instructor or coach can be helpful in improving your technique and maximizing your distance potential.

To hit a cut or fade golf shot, follow these steps:

1. Set up with the ball slightly further forward in your stance than usual, and with your feet, hips, and shoulders aiming slightly to the left of your target (for a right-handed golfer).
   
2. Aim the clubface slightly to the left of your target as well.
   
3. During your backswing, try to keep the clubface square to the target line, while making sure that your clubhead is traveling on an outside-to-in swing path.
   
4. As you start your downswing, focus on keeping the clubface slightly open to the target line, which will create a left-to-right spin on the ball.
5. Make sure to follow through with your swing and release the clubhead after impact to ensure maximum spin and direction control.

The 2023 invitational Masters tournament has invited 17 LIV golfers to play in this years event starting on April 5. The group includes former Masters winners Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson along with a list of previous top performers.  Since the Masters tournament is an independently run organization and event, they can invite anyone they prefer to the annual tournament.
